Opening in 1963 by restaurant pioneer Tony White, the iconic Tonys Wellesley Street is Auckland’s oldest surviving restaurant. Originally an Italian style pasta restaurant Tony cleverly adapted to changing food trends and introduced steaks to the menu, quickly making Tonys known as (earning Tonys the title) the home of the Great Steak – quite possibly the best in the world.
Current owner Kenn Henderson took the helm in 1978, and continued to evolve the menu to meet with clients’ demands but all the while insisting on maintaining the emphasis on producing the best steaks in town.
Joined by Head chef, Peter Bird, and Manager, Donna Moody, - both of whom have been loyally by his side for more than 18 years – Kenn has strived to deliver the freshest and tastiest of meals in the warmest of surroundings. With a relaxed atmosphere and decor reminiscent of ‘the good old days’, Tonys Wellesley street has many varied and flexible dinning areas so whether you’re part of a group looking to enjoy the bustling excitement of a preshow gathering, or wanting a quiet booth for a special night, Tonys Wellesley Street is the perfect venue.
Now with Kenn’s, Peter’s and Donna’s children all onboard to look after you as well, you can be sure Tonys Wellesley Street has a true family feel, we invite you to come on in and feel like a part of the family.
